Over 1,200 attend Wine, Beer & BBQ Tasting at Progressive Field Presented by Giant Eagle
The 1200 plus people who attended Grapes & Ale, Presented by Giant Eagle, enjoyed the hottest BBQ of the summer, with samplings of more than 200 internationally acclaimed wines, craft brews and tastes from some of the sauciest BBQ restaurants in town, along with the music of Colin Dussault’s Side Project.
Terry Davis, CEO of The Wayside, said with the help of Giant Eagle and other sponsors, almost one and a half million dollars has been raised since the event was created 14 years ago. “This is truly one of the most exciting and engaging event we’ve created and the support we get from the community goes a long way towards helping us accomplish our goals, which are to create opportunities and pathways for our consumers and their families to live safe, happy and full lives,” said Davis.
Attendees also helped raise money by bidding on a number of donated silent auction items including several trips, autographed sports items and much more!
Winning the “Best of Red” in the blind tasting was Joel Gott Cabernet, while top honors for the “Best of White” went to Calling All Angels Chardonnay. Goose Island Sofie was the number one choice among craft beer drinkers.
For the third year in a row, the event featured the ESPN 850 WKNR Market Pavilion Beer Garden with an impressive line-up of craft beers, including Blue Moon, Goose Island, Great Lakes, Leinenkugel’s, Magic Hat, Pyramid Breweries, Lime-a-Rita and Straw-Ber-Rita Participating BBQ restaurants included Famous Dave’s, Hot Sauce Williams, Corleone’s Mavis Winkles, Y.O.L.O. Battery Park Wine Bar, The 100th Bomb Group and The Wayside Grille.
Special guests at the event included Majic 105.7’s John Lanigan, ESPN 850 WKNR’s Mark “Munch Bishop, Q104’s Average Joe and Plain Dealer Food Critic Joe Crea.
