2008 Starlight Guardian Humanitarian Award to Honor Cleveland Duo

A successful businessman and a well-known attorney will be honored as recipients of the Fourth Annual Our Lady of the Wayside's Starlight Guardian Humanitarian Award during a noon luncheon at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven, Tuesday, November 18. The Shamrock Companies CEO Robert Troop and John R. Climaco, Esq., long-time special and generous Wayside supporters, will be honored for their outstanding work and support in the community, including active participation as board members of Our Lady of the Wayside. "Once again, the selection criteria recognizing selfless acts through devotion to creating opportunities for enhanced quality of life for many is an exact fit with our honorees," said Sam Miller, event founder and 2008 Chairman.

Mrs. Margaret Zito, Wayside parent and agency supporter; Mike Fratello, former head coach and NBA Commentator, and Tim Connor, President of The Shamrock Companies share the duties of event Co-Chairpersons. Shamrock is the presenting event sponsor for the fourth consecutive year. Bill Wills, WTAM Radio, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The benefit event has raised more than $600,000 since it was inaugurated in 2005. This year's proceeds will be designated toward the costs of two new neighborhood homes designed for the remaining residents of a larger facility to provide family experiences in smaller settings where residents can be nurtured to live up to their fullest potential and find greater independence.

Past recipients are Alex Machaskee, retired Publisher, THE PLAIN DEALER, The Most Reverend Anthony M. Pilla, retired Bishop of Cleveland, and Larry Dolan, owner of the Cleveland Indians.

Our Lady of the Wayside, a non-denominational non-profit agency, has served the special needs of children and adults with Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities in northeast Ohio for more than forty years. In order to maintain premier daily services for its 300 residents, located in 43 neighborhood homes in 28 communities spread across Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties, Our Lady of the Wayside seeks increased private support to compensate for shrinking Medicaid allocations.

"We thank our sponsors and the generous benefactors who support us," said Terry Davis, President/CEO for Our Lady of the Wayside. "Our success in providing quality services and programs depends on this important their support." Major sponsorships are offered in a range of $5,000 to $25,000, with corporate tables of eight at $2,500 and individual seating at $100. Along with The Shamrock Companies, sponsors include National City and Colliers Ostendorf-Morris. Media sponsors are WTAM, Smart Business and The Jewish News.
