Our Lady of the Wayside has a comprehensive transportation program that provides safety and convenience for our 200 residents each day. Each of our 40 homes is equipped with a specially modified passenger van that can accommodate persons with disabilities. Vans are outfitted with special lifts to assist residents with wheelchairs (about 50% of residents are in wheelchairs).

These special vans transport our residents to work, school, medical appointments, shopping, social and family outings and Our Lady of the Wayside programs, such as Music Therapy or the Computer Skills Development program.  Having transportation at each home is critical to the individuals that depend daily on our services, the ability to travel freely provides our residents wonderful opportunities to go to work, learn at school and engage in many confidence-building activities.

The transportation department is responsible for staff driver training/safety and supervision of the agency’s fleet of vehicles. Supervised maintenance schedules for each vehicle have been in place for over a decade and vehicles are replaced as they age out of the program.
