As ever, Our Lady of the Wayside stands committed to enriching the lives of the people we support by providing pathways to healthy and productive personal growth through professional care and guidance.

Consistent with every person we care for, is a focus on providing specialized support that brings individuals increased opportunities for active participation in the community and an enhanced quality of life. Families and guardians play an integral part in the development of service plans to the individuals we serve and are welcome to join in a wide variety of ongoing activities and events organized by Wayside.

 

 

residential program

Wayside’s Residential Program services for children and adults with developmental disabilities has been at the core of the agency’s mission for over five decades Comprehensive, high quality supports and services are tailored for the optimum health and well-being of the individuals we serve.

Staff are available 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, 365 days-a-year. Training is extensive and on-going and includes (but is not limited to) First Aid/CPR, Medication Administration, dietary planning, household management, and personal care. Services are person-centered and residential accommodations include supported living, consortium homes, and transitional living services are all part of The Wayside family of services.

 

Managing 70 homes in nearly 40 communities throughout Northeast Ohio, resources within Wayside’s family of services are extensive and include access to:

  • Occupational and Physical Therapy

Accommodations and personal assistance are tailored to the individuals living in each home and depending on the setting can include:

  • Ongoing 24/7 Care from Direct Support Professionals

  • Lift Systems and Other Accessible Modifications for Home Environment

  • Adaptive Equipment

  • Monitoring Systems

  • Weekly Residential Meetings

  • Fire Safety Equipment

  • Dietary Support and Menu Planning

  • Dedicated Vehicle for Each Home

  • Wheelchair Maintenance

  • Ongoing Quality Assurance Monitoring

 

 

Nursing Program

One of the largest waiver providers of its kind in the State of Ohio - and one of the few with a Nursing Program - Wayside’s Nursing Program creates and applies health and wellness strategies to manage every facet of care for the people with developmental disabilities we serve. The result is a professional and compassionate continuum of care centered on individual needs.

Nursing Services:

  • Implementation of physician orders and collaboration with medical professionals and therapists

  • Evaluation of standards and outcomes of care, and implementation of necessary modifications

  • Implementation of infection control for all Wayside facilities, consumers and staff

  • Instruction of direct care stall in Medication Administration, First Aid + CPR and crisis management

  • Implementation of high standards in medical practices and patient care

  • Management of on-going medical appointments and follow-ups

  • Utilization of extensive and precise documentation

  • Management of pharmacy issues, and prescription medication ordering/monitoring

  • Quarterly assessments of consumer’s health and wellness

  • Collaboration with County Boards of Developmental Disabilities and County Boards of Health

  • Participation in IEP and ISP meetings and implementation of individualized treatment plans

  • Communication with family members and guardians regarding consumer’s health status

 

Wellness Services:

  • Cultivation of a family atmosphere

  • Implementation of healthy menus through agency dietitian

  • Participation in community

  • Support and training for independent self-care life skills

  • Definition and support of individual wellness goals

  • Exploration of personal interests through exercise, craft, computer and other programs

  • Encouragement of open communication via customer satisfaction survey

  • Facilitation of abilities and personal growth


 

transportation program

The ability to be mobile is critically important to the individuals Wayside serves. Transportation enables participation in a variety of activities and the realization of goals, which in turn leads to greater opportunities.

  • Wayside is unique from similar organizations in that each home has a dedicated vehicle specially modified to ensure safe, reliable transportation.

  • Wayside’s Transportation Program provides the best standard of care for transporting children and adults with developmental disabilities.

  • The agency owns and maintains a fleet of over 110 vehicles, many specifically modified to transport individuals with a range of disabilities.

  • Services include transporting individuals to a variety of activities, including: work, school, medical appointments, activities, adult day programs, day trips, social outings and family visits.

  • Wayside's fleet of vehicles is constantly monitored. Additionally, all vehicles are on a maintenance schedule and serviced by certified mechanics.

  • Vehicles are driven by staff who have completed Wayside's training program including first aid/CPR - and staff are insured to drive specially modified vehicles.

  • Wayside provides transportation services in Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, and Summit Counties.

  • Vehicles are equipped with GPS tracking systems which monitor speed and locations of vehicles to ensure safety.

  • The Transportation Program drives 1 million miles annually.


 

pathways program

Our Lady of the Wayside’s Pathways Program offers day services for 250+ adults with developmental disabilities, and focuses on personal growth for participants through a variety of activities.


Established in 2011, the Pathways Day Program:

  • Creates social connections, enhances daily living skills, and cultivates self-confidence and individual interests through innovative day programming.

  • Presents participants with the opportunity to enjoy interaction with peers in an environment that provides more dedicated supervision and assistance than traditional day program or workshop settings.

  • Encourages personal growth and independence with a focus on wellness, creativity, and continuing education activities.

  • Offers a wide-range of activities including computer, crafts, cooking, games, and music participation - along with outings to area attractions.

  • Provides opportunities for participants to occasionally volunteer their time.

  • Is available in five (5) locations: Avon, Garfield Heights, Mentor, Valley View, and Westlake.

  • Offers transportation for individuals residing in Wayside homes.
